Sheepskin with medical tanning is a natural material with unique characteristics. The sheepskin, like all types of leather, needs to be tanned to prevent it from deconping. Medical tanning is a particular type of vegetable tanning that guarantees the preservation of the natural characteristics of wool. In fact, vegetable tannins are used and the presence of maize gives the typical yellowish color to the wool. Medical tanned leather is free of formaldehyde, azo compounds, pentachlorophenol, heavy metals and substances harmful to the body.

The characteristics of the sheep's fleece with medical tanning are mainly linked to the ability to maintain a constant temperature and to absorb excess moisture, giving a pleasant comfort. If used by newborns, it recreates the feeling of uterine protection that facilitates sleep and calms down in case of pain and stress. For this reason it is also used for people caught in the event of illness where the fleece is able to prevent or soothe bedsores. In fact the sheep's fleece with medical tanning is very transpiring and leaves the skin dry and healthy.

The medical-tanned wool is naturally rich in lanolin, a wax that protects and waterproofs wool. Thanks to lanolin sheepskin does not require frequent washing but it is sufficient to brush it and expose it to air to regenerate it.
