Biocosmesi certification was codified by Soil and Health, a certification body born in 1969 with the desire to propose an alternative agriculture to the conventional one that in those days made extensive use of chemical fertilizers and herbicides. The goal was to promote agriculture that preserved the fertility of the soil and that it was able to produce healthy foods. In fact, Soil and Health has played an important role in the development of organic farming in Italy and in Europe.

Biocosmise certification was born in 2009 and its standards are comparable to those of the most important European certification of natural and organic cosmetics. This provides for the distinction between products in two different categories:

1. Biocosmesi: For cosmetics with predominance of natural ingredients and organic farming. At least 15% (depending on the type of subcategory) of the ingredients must be natural and at most 15% of natural origin.

 

• Biocosmesi 70 - At least 70% of natural ingredients must come from controlled organic or certified spontaneous farming.
• Biocosmesi 95 - At least 95% of the natural ingredients must come from controlled organic farming or certified spontaneous harvesting.
• Biocosmese Veritas - 100% of natural ingredients must come from controlled organic or certified spontaneous farming.

 

2. Biocosmesi Verde: For cosmetics with a predominance of natural plant ingredients and organic farming. At least 15% (depending on the type of subcategory) of the ingredients must be vegetable-based and not more than 15% of natural plant origin.

 

• Biocosmesi Verde 70 - At least 70% of the natural plant ingredients must come from controlled organic farming or certified spontaneous harvesting.
• Biocosmesi Verde 95 - At least 95% of the natural vegetable ingredients must come from controlled organic farming or certified spontaneous harvesting.
• Biocosmesi Verde - 100% of natural plant ingredients must come from controlled organic or certified spontaneous farming.
