IVN is an association of over 100 companies from all stages of leather and textile production that have the responsibility of an ecologically and socially responsible production. Environmental awareness and ecology about textile production are the topics that have always focused on iVN's attention, without obviously neglecting corporate social responsibility towards workers and stakeholders and health of consumers and of those who are involved in productions. For the latter aspect, iVN supports the need to choose first of all natural and biological textile fibers and the use of substances compatible with human health in all other phases of the production chain.

The quality standard NATURTEXTIL IVN zertifiziert BEST, known in Europe, currently defines the highest level of sustainability, applying the highest parameters currently available for production and product.

Companies wishing to obtain this certification will have to reach high quality standards such as:

  • Awareness and environmental protection. Companies wishing to implement sustainable production should have a document that includes provisions to minimize and monitor waste production and environmental impact, as well as emergency plans for waste or other polluting material, staff training documentation on the topics optimization of water and energy consumption, optimum use of chemicals and their proper disposal, as well as programs to improve operational procedures on these issues.
  • The use of natural and biological textile fibers. This is a central issue for iVN that issues certification only if the textile surface (which does not include zip, ink, sheets, and buttons) is made up of 100% natural fiber obtained from biological biological or certified organic certification. Synthetic fibers are only accepted for certain accessories.
  • The ban on the use of substances harmful to health. For all BEST certified tissues, all hazardous substances are strictly forbidden at all stages of the process. BEST categorically prohibits the use of substances classified as carcinogenic, harmful for genetically engineered, substances that compromise fertility. These include a number of organic compounds that use chromium, bromide, chlorine or fluoride which are not readily biodegradable and which tend to accumulate in the human body, for example in the blood, fat tissue or breast milk, and may be carcinogenic.
  • Exclusive use of natural substances in yarn processing and weaving. For spinning, only the mechanical method is allowed, combing the yarn, a more environmentally friendly process, and substances coming from natural principles such as paraffin and paraffinic and only if necessarily needed. In weaving, only sanding agents such as starches, starch derivatives and natural substances are allowed. Only mechanical processes such as compaction, felt and punchneedle are allowed to produce the pile. For purification only enzymatic substances and for bleaching only oxygen (no chlorine, hydrogen peroxide, caustic soda or surfactants)
  • Prohibition of heavy metals and azocolourants for coloring, while for prints only water based and natural oils are allowed.
  • The garment design is made possible by the synthetic sewing thread PES to ensure longer life to the garment but must be covered in cotton. Embroidery threads, applications, pockets, labels should be pure natural fiber while elastic bands and lace finishing can be synthetic to maintain elasticity. The buttons and snaps can be in natural or metal materials, the latter free of nickel and chrome.
  • Consumer Health. BEST request that certified tissues are subjected to a laboratory test of chemical residues in the finished product. The tests determine if hazardous substances can be released on the skin of the consumer by friction (rubbing) or sweating. The parameters for these tests are significantly stricter than those provided by the law, thus providing an additional guarantee for consumers. The BEST standard also defines the quality parameters that must be met by finished clothing: color resistance to splash, sweat, light, shrinkage, washability, and of primary importance to babies Saliva Resistance.
