1. What is Ethical Clothing?

Ethical clothing is a conscious choice. It means wearing clothes made with respect for human rights, the environment and health.
A garment is ethical when its producer is treated with dignity, works safely, receives a fair wage and its activity does not damage the ecosystem.

Unlike fast fashion – quick, cheap, but often linked to exploitation and pollution – ethical clothing puts people and the planet at the center.

2. Why Choose Ethical Clothing Today

Buying a dress is no longer a neutral gesture. Every choice we make has an impact: social, environmental, cultural.

The main reasons why more and more people choose ethical fashion:

- 👕 Reduces exploitation in the textile sector

- 🌱 Use less polluting materials

- ♻️ Promotes the life of garments and reduces waste

- 🧘 It makes you feel at peace with yourself

Whoever chooses an ethical garment does not just buy a dress, but a value , a story , a responsibility .

3. Ethical and Sustainable Clothing: Are They the Same Thing?

The two terms are often used synonymously, but they are not identical.

- Ethical concerns respect for those who produce.

- Sustainable is about environmental impact.

A garment can be ethical but not eco-friendly (e.g. made of conventional cotton but produced in fair trade factories). Or sustainable but not ethical (e.g. made of recycled fabric but produced in unacceptable working conditions).

The ideal is to choose garments that are ethical and sustainable . And yes, they exist. More and more.

4. Ethical Clothing for Women, Men and Children

👩 Woman

Women are leading the change in fashion. Ethical women's clothing today combines comfort, beauty and conscience: linen dresses, organic cotton t-shirts, regenerated wool sweaters. Style yes, but with value.

👨 Man

Ethical men's clothing is also growing: soft shirts, durable trousers, sweatshirts and t-shirts produced in a clean and conscious way. For those who do not give up on quality but want to make the right choices.

👶 Child

Children deserve the best. Ethical children's clothing means safe, toxin-free materials and non-exploitative production. It's the first step in teaching little ones to care about the world.

5. Ethical Clothing Made in Italy: Quality and Respect

Made in Italy, when it is truly ethical, is one of the highest expressions of sustainable fashion.

Producing in Italy means:

- Trace the entire supply chain

- Give work to small artisan businesses

- Enhance Italian “know-how”

- Reduce the environmental impact related to transport

On Altramoda you will find a wide range of garments made by certified local Italian producers , commissioned directly by the brand. It is a guarantee of quality, transparency and consistency .

6. Materials Used in Ethical Clothing

An ethical dress starts from its raw material .
Here are the most used materials:

- Organic cotton : grown without chemical pesticides

- Hemp : natural, resistant and low impact

- Linen : fresh, biodegradable and long-lasting

- Tencel™ / Lyocell : fibre derived from eucalyptus, soft and breathable

- Regenerated wool : obtained from discarded garments or production waste

- Recycled fabrics : to reduce waste and give new life to materials

All materials that respect the skin, the environment and people .

7. How to Recognize an Ethical Fashion Brand

Here are 5 clear signs:

  1. ✅ It has recognized certifications (GOTS, OEKO-TEX, Fair Wear…)

  2. ✅ Clearly communicate where and how it produces

  3. ✅ Use natural or recycled materials

  4. ✅ Avoid endless collections and renew with care

  5. ✅ He doesn't write green proclamations, but tells the facts

8. Where to Buy Ethical Clothing Online

Online shopping is convenient, but you have to know how to choose.
Many shops call themselves “green” but are not transparent.

👉 Altramoda.net was the first Italian e-commerce dedicated exclusively to ethical, natural and sustainable clothing.
A huge assortment, for women, men, children, and a selection that truly respects ethical and ecological criteria.

9. Ethical Fashion in Action: The Altramoda x ACT Collaboration

An example of ethical production?

In 2023 Altramoda started a collaboration with Africa Collect Textiles (ACT) , a social reality based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Why is it important?

Every year tons of used European clothes are dumped in the countries of the South of the world. The phenomenon is known as MITUMBA in Kenya. Only a small part of these clothes is resellable. The rest becomes textile waste, polluting the beaches, rivers, air.

ACT intervenes here: recover, recycle, transform .

With ACT, Altramoda has co-created a mini upcycled collection with denim and Kitenge (African fabric scraps): aprons, pot holders, placemats… Beautiful, useful and meaningful home textiles.

A fashion that does not discard, but recovers.
A fashion that gives dignity and creates a network.
