Made in India
Over the past 20 years, Nomads has brought uncompromisingly exclusively fair trade clothing.
This means ensuring that standards are met to meet fair trade guidelines. Nomads has always supported the policy of 'trade not aid,' believing that this is the best way to help maintain a sustainable and profitable life for the producers and ourselves. Our love for Indian handicrafts and desire to maintain these traditions is sewn into the fabric of these clothes. Villages like Bagru are known for their wonderful Block Print, which you will find in many of the classic garments for this season. Supporting artisans is another way Nomads is able to promote traditional skills.
Fair trade also takes environmental issues into consideration. For the past 6 years Nomads have been working toward finding new ways to reduce the environmental impact our products have on the planet. Organic cotton is now more available to us and we are happy to increase this range once again for the new collection.
Organic farming means no harmful chemicals are used and the land requires less water.
Packaging: our packaging is recycled and biodegradable postbags are used, which are helping to reduce the impact of the business on the environment.
The Nomads Clothing Promise

- We provide equality between men and women in pay and opportunity in the workplace.
- We pay a fair wage to all workers that is both equal to or higher than the national average.
- We provide safe working conditions, regular breaks and holidays for all workers.
- We pay producers in advance so that they do not incur debt to purchase materials.
- We promote traditional crafts such as Handloom Khadi and Tie Dye to keep these traditions alive and ensure vital income for villages.
- We work with small rural communities by implementing trade projects, which provide essential support for disadvantaged people in rural areas.
- We always use Azo Free and natural dyes that have the least impact on the environment. We encourage our organic cotton range to promote sustainable fashion and the protection of farmers' health and welfare.
- To recycle materials and reuse waste fabrics, we make beautiful bags.
- We will continue our research in order to increase our range of organic cotton and biodegradable packaging.
- We promote awareness of the need to shop responsibly and push corporations to work in the direction of fair trade globally.
Working Conditions
We personally inspect all factories where our garments are made.
We do this on a regular basis to ensure that workers are treated fairly and with respect, with regular visits throughout the year.
In India, it is illegal to use children under 16, and this law is upheld by all our suppliers. Workers are paid a good hourly rate. Wages are set by the Indian government by dividing workers into unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled. All employees' wages meet or exceed these levels by pay. There are also equal opportunities for men and women who are paid the same wage for the same work-which is very important for Fairtrade principles.
There are pension schemes are in place that employees can join and companies make contributions to. Manufacturers benefit from a number of subsidies and tax breaks for exporting goods in foreign currency. This is an incentive for factories to maintain good working conditions and responsible labor practices.

Nomads the story
Duncan and Vicky met while traveling in India in late 1980. With only £200 left in their pockets, they used the money to fill a trunk with wonderful ethnic clothing and returned to the UK.
They soon returned to India with the profits they had made, mixing the useful with the delightful; at Buddhist retreats, they discovered handicrafts in local markets and collected wonderful handmade textiles along the way. A shared love of India and its culture inspired them to start their own clothing company. Inspired by Indian craft, they worked with a designer to create styles perfect for the European market, finding a niche for bohemian fashion with an ethnic twist.
Nomads creates clothing with each individual woman in mind. For those who see life as a wonderful adventure. Soft, colorful, feminine clothes that are comfortable and floaty. Nomads also has a respect for people and nature, believing strongly in fair trade values and following ethical fashion guidelines.
