What makes silk so special?
Silk SHINES: Silk is synonymous with shine. Due to this unique shine, colors are shown to their best advantage. But shine is only the most obvious of its body and sensory-friendly attributes.
Silk caresses: Thanks to its particularly fine, smooth fiber structure, silk is supple and soft. Due to its protein structure, silk has the best skin tolerance of all textile fibers. It can also be worn on the skin by sensitive people without any problems.
Silk AIR CONDITIONING: Silk has optimal insulating properties: it warms you up when it's cold and cools you down when it's hot. It is therefore perfectly wearable in both summer and winter. Silk is particularly good to wear “underneath” because it warms without being bulky. Silk can absorb about 30% of its own weight in moisture without feeling damp. It can absorb large amounts of sweat while allowing the skin to breathe. Silk enables physical well-being.
Silk LASTS: Despite its appearance, silk is relatively robust. Thanks to its smooth surface, it is dirt-repellent and insensitive to odors. Silk is wrinkle-resistant, tear-resistant and dries quickly.
Silk FLATS: Silk has all the fairy tale glamor of its history: no princess without a silk robe, no nobleman without a silk robe. Chinese poets wrote about the harmonizing effect of silk clothing 2000 years ago. Silk remains a magical substance with hidden powers.
AVOID ALKALI!!! The silk moth uses an alkaline liquid to create a hole in the cocoon to hatch. Accordingly, the silk remains sensitive to alkaline agents such as heavy-duty and delicate detergents. Conventional detergents often contain enzymes and optical brighteners that attack silk and colour. Therefore, only hand wash with silk detergent (if necessary, wool detergent or shampoo, although the moisturizing components reduce the silky sheen). It is best to completely dissolve liquid silk detergent in the water and then place the textile in it.
A dash of clear vinegar cares for silk and colour. A brittle handle and dull surface indicate alkaline damage, which can be reduced with a vinegar rinse (water with a dash of vinegar).
Drying: Wet silk will yellow in direct sunlight or on a heater. Friction occurs in the dryer and the silk dries out. Avoid both. It is best to hang reel silk wet, shape bourette silk and dry flat, both away from direct sunlight.
Statically charged: Dried silk becomes electrostatically charged. Moistening will help (e.g. rub over it with a wet hand).
Grease stains: Fresh grease stains can often be removed with baking soda: sprinkle dry onto the area, leave for approx. 20 minutes and tap off. Otherwise, white spirit will help. Caution !!: first make a color test on an inconspicuous area and just dab it on - don't rub it. If in doubt, take it to a good dry cleaner.
Sweat: The alkali content in human sweat can be high and damage the silk. In this case, protective inserts can help.
